Agios Antonios Monastery & Kefalos hill
Agios Antonios Monastery
To the east of Marpissas is the monastery of Agios Antonios (16th century). Built on the top of the hill of Kefalos.
The hill of Kefalos is an inactive volcano (crater lies under the altar of the monastery).
The Monastery of Agios Antonios is one of the most historic and picturesque shrines of the island, and it is inhabited.
Inside the church there are folk art paintings on the walls (17-18 century).
On the hill are also preserved ruins of the Venetian castle, built in the 15th century.
