ABOUT PAWS

Paros Animal Welfare Society

is active on Paros Island since 1995.
Its targets and policies can be shortly defined as follows:

PAWS is committed to the welfare of stray animals and, more generally, of animals under human care. Its primary objectives are the promotion of sterilization as an effective measure against overpopulation of strays, and the education of animal owners regarding their responsibilities as carers of dogs and cats. Due to the saturation of the island's suitable animal homes, PAWS supports an international rehoming programme which has proved very successful during recent years in keeping the numbers of unwanted animals relatively low.

Because animal welfare in Greece gets very scarce public support, it is almost entirely in the hands of private donors and volunteers. Without YOUR help, nothing can be achieved!

HELP TO REDUCE THE NUMBER OF HOMELESS DOGS AND CATS AND IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF THE EXISTING ONES! HELP MAKING PAROS A BETTER PLACE!
PERSPECTIVES
1. To secure
a sterilization clinic where stray animals can be housed for preparation, postoperative care and reintegration after surgery. This facility, (an obligation according to national government policy), can also be used as a temporary shelter for animals in the PAWS "Re-homing Programme".
2. To obtain funds to equip and maintain the facilities and cover medical costs. This will be achieved by lobbying municipal, regional and national authorities, membership and fundraising activities.
3. To increase the number of volunteers so that the whole island has people that care for strays.
4. To provide factual information to the public about caring and neutering of cats and dogs.
5. To support the vet exchange between Greece and other countries and to assist vets in neutering cats and dogs.
6. To arrange for vets to visit schools on Paros and make presentations about animal care.
7. To ensure the animal protection laws are enforced by the police.
